Ides Of Summer

Let's go by the old bridge
And look for the riches that I've seen
In glints and in flashes
On water that's rippling

This shrinking island
The blight's spreading everywhere
A star at the border
It's guiding the waves and torches' glare

I want you to feel it
This surging that's burgeoning
It's not in your insides
For all the seditious murmurings

The ides of summer
And treetops a'swayin' evenly
Before it's dried up
The start of the crumbling

And into an evening
Of promises and hopeful lies
You're here and I'm inside
The screen window's billowing

It's really raining
On down through the canopy
Lit up in bright flashes
Leaves hiding skeletal forms

A song for windless nights
And winsome appetites
When sunlight blazes I'll be gone
Out to the long way back
Before it all moves on

It's all going faster
Inviting, igniting light and sound
The air's gone electric
Escaping a static cloud

Just don't say nothing
And unfold your silent wings
I'm right here breathing
Under the ivy hanging down

Nimbus and corona
Blooming in concert
