Broken Doorways

Strangled dusk- fallen time
earth saw the burning sky
through the eyes of the fallen
now a black gleaming veil of flies
has closed their wounds

Nights with lungs full of smoke
the hard breath of the fleeing
when gunshots let the silence shatter
like a wet blanket, fear has enclosed their lives
the stifled screams of the wounded
hurt like needles
left behind to die
they watch their hopes disappear

Fires quietly chew the dark
in silence ashes join the wind
blowing through broken doorways
