Highway In The Sky

When I pulled big Mack into the yard today
They told me ole Joe was dead
But you know he was once a hell of a driver
And I remember what ole Joe said

I'm not a truck drivin' man anymore
They claim I'm too old and now I sweep and mop the floors
They say that younger drivers aren't prone to have a wreck
But I pushed a rig for thirty years and never had a scrape

But it won't be long for me to wait
I'll drive my truck through heaven's golden gates
With those angels ridin' with me we'll make that engine sigh
Blowin' diesel smoke on a highway in the sky

I've made the haul from Boston to Frisco on the bay
Fought detours and I've been polite each mile of the way
Been a midwife to a stranger brought new life to this land
But now they say ole Joe's too old to be a drivin' man

But it won't be long for me to wait...

Then one day he said Johnny you know sometimes at night
I sit and watch those big Mack rolling by
Boy it's hard not to turn my head because it makes me wanna cry
I know that I'm not gonna drive again but wishin' is not a sin
