An alley pale lit by a spying sky
To drunk to grieve where
We might have been if alive
An animal stumbling sideways
Short breaths stringing cold
A voice could mock the silence
Where babies should be old
Halfway in the street
Is where these strangers meet
Discussing their salvation
Despite our gate to heaven

I'm alive, I'm alive.
A beautiful beast, I'm alive,
Though shipwreaked and ruined
