The Great Blinding

Mankind's eyes aimed at the sky
Watch the light that fills the night
But in my dream I cannot see
The scorching beam consuming me

As dawn is breaking and day starts anew
Humankind wakens bereft from view
Our days of dominance fade - they fade
We must act before it's too late

The day the triffids came
Cloaked in a shadow
The blindness broke their chains
And pulled us under
Only us few remain
To fight the evil
Can it be all in vain
And is all lost forever

There is no safe haven
Always on the run
Our numbers declining fast
They take us one by one
We're the last men standing
Against the tide
But rapidly we're losing foothold
Towards the edge we slide

Will our own creation become our end
Gone wild mutation we fail to apprehend
The fate of the world in our hands - our hands
The quest for a cure, one more chance
