The Greatest Mistake

Others said that she was born too late
But to them she was the greatest mistake
They’d lost hope, it was in their eyes
So to them she was the finest surprise

There she was, as they were getting old
Defying all that they were told
They wondered how the smallest hand
Could hold a heart like a parlour grand

The smallest thing, the biggest joy
The shortest time, left to enjoy
The sleeping spirit now awake
The sweetest shock, the great mistake

Others said it wasn’t fair
It stung them like they didn’t care
A shallow mind can’t understand
The deepest love is never planned

Each second counts for everyone
No matter what the speed we run
Is we can never go (never gonna be) quite fast
Enough to catch up with the past

That little house was full of love
They were complete, they had enough
And then she came and everything
Burst in to bloom, eternal spring

The volume loud, the colours bright
The endless days, the sleepless nights
The journey’s end, at last they find
The only thing we leave behind
