Today I Return

The shore is closing in
Like visions of a haunted past
Soon I will greet my kin
A long journey over at last
Alone and forlorn
All others were lost
From brothers I was torn
While bifrost they crossed
To enter the gates
Of the hall up high
Spun were the threads of fate
In peace now they lie

For the east we were bound
The wind was on our side
As the land behind us faded
Sorrow filled my heart
The seas were rough
Unpredictable and treacherous
As if the great serpent
Himself was on our trail
Countless years have passed
Full of misery, pain and grief
The life of a thrall
Was not easy to endure

As the great allfather
Granted me the strength
I survived
My suffering was through at last
May frey protect me
On my journey back home
May the dragons head guide me
Onwards we go

For one day I'll drink
In the hall of the gods
And sit by the allfathers side
But today I return
My scars remind me
Of the whips on my back
But all I endured
Clinging to a lost hope
Of one day returning
To the land where I belong
The glistening snow, endless woods
Oh how I long

Whispers on the breeze
The taste of salt from
The ocean on my lips

Slowly turns to joy
Home at long last
My eyes begin to tear
